Here at UK Electrical we are passionate about providing electrical apprenticeships and training opportunities to young people in the local area. Managing Director Steve Fellows began his career as an apprentice himself and believes that apprenticeships offer the perfect blend of practical on-the job training and classroom learning.
We recognise that investing in young people in the area allows people to gain hands-on experience working in a job they’re interested in whilst also earning a wage, developing skills, and gaining a qualification.
To ensure that our apprentices receive the best possible training, we are thrilled to be working closely with Birmingham Electrical Training. This partnership allows us to provide our apprentices with the latest industry knowledge and skills, giving them the best possible chance of success in their careers.
Jack Sims, the Managing Director of Birmingham Electrical Training, said,
“We are delighted to be working with UK Electrical. Their commitment to apprenticeships and their dedication to providing high-quality training to their apprentices is truly inspiring. We are confident that this collaboration will help to shape the future of the electrical industry in the Birmingham area.”
We currently employ 10 electrical apprentices from the Birmingham area. 7 of these, are working on one of our biggest projects to date, the electrical installation for a 203,224m2 fulfillment centre in Peddimore for IM Properties Plc and main contractor Winvic Construction Ltd.
Our apprentices are paid in line with JIB rates, which meet, or exceed the national minimum wage. They are also paid for their 12 weeks per year of college attendance, study leave, exams, holidays & bank holidays. At the end of their apprenticeship, we offer full-time permanent roles as electricians at UK Electrical and then we continue to invest in their training and development whilst they build their career further with us.
Brandon Green, who has just completed his 4-year apprenticeship at UK Electrical said,
“I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship at UK Electrical. I think that electrical apprenticeships give you a really good opportunity to get involved in a great trade that gives you a solid career. Working with main contractor Winvic and UK Electrical on the Peddimore job especially, has been great as it is so near to where I live. Working on such a large project I have gained skills in lots of different areas and I have had my first opportunity to run a team.”
We are proud of our commitment to the apprenticeship scheme and the opportunities it provides young people in the local community. We’re dedicated to nurturing the next generation of electricians and providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their careers.
We believe that our people are our most important and valuable asset, which is why 100% of our workforce is directly employed and is what sets us apart in our industry.
