Cohen Harford’s AM2 Success

UK Electrical Apprentice Cohen Harford Triumphs in AM2 Assessment: A Milestone Achievement

We are proud to celebrate our apprentice Cohen Harford, who recently passed the AM2S exam with distinction on his first attempt.

Jack from training partner Birmingham Electrical Training explains why this is such a special achievement

The AM2S is the Assessment of Occupational Competence for the electrical industry.

All electrical apprentices who successfully complete their apprenticeship undertake the AM2S as their End Point Assessment. The AM2S is a three-day assessment taken under exam conditions in front of an impartial examiner, covering installation, fault finding, and test and inspection.

Cohen’s achievement stands out because he not only passed on his first attempt but did so with distinction.

Only 20% of this year’s cohort achieved this level and passed on their first attempt.Cohen has been a delight to teach and develop over the past four years. He’s a great role model for future apprentices and a fine representative of UK Electrical.”

Cohen’s Journey and Reflection:

Speaking about his journey, Cohen reflected on the valuable experiences he gained throughout his apprenticeship at UKE.

“Being an apprentice at UKE has been a roller coaster for sure. I’ve been fortunate to work on diverse projects, from small works to large-scale fit-outs, which helped broaden my knowledge and build the skills to succeed.

I have been lucky to work with 2 great mentors – Oliver Pugh and Mark Burford.  Their technical expertise, industry knowledge and willingness to share this has been pivotal in my development.

Passing the AM2S feels like a massive weight off my shoulders. I’m excited about the next steps and focusing on running jobs and pursuing my testing qualification.”

Recognition from UKE: The Role of Mentorship

A key factor in Cohen’s success has been the support and mentorship he received from his colleagues at UKE, especially from Oliver Pugh and Mark Burford, who worked closely with Cohen throughout his apprenticeship.

Oliver Pugh, who played a significant role in Cohen’s development, expressed his pride in seeing Cohen succeed:

“I’m over the moon for Cohen passing first time. I knew he would do well because he picks things up really quickly.

Cohen put his head down for four years, and it’s paid off for him.

It is definitely rewarding when an apprentice passes first time – it shows that they’ve listened and understood what you’ve taught them over the years.”

This mentorship has been crucial in helping Cohen grow both personally and professionally, and it demonstrates UKE’s commitment to nurturing young talent.

A Special Thanks:

At UKE, we recognise and value the dedication of our apprentices. Cohen’s success is not only a reflection of his hard work but also a testament to the supportive environment at UKE, where training and development are prioritised. We’d like to extend a special thanks to Oliver Pugh and Mark Burford for their mentorship and guidance, as well as to BET for their role in preparing our apprentices for the AM2S exam.

Looking Ahead:

Cohen’s achievement in passing the AM2S is just the beginning of what promises to be a bright career in the electrical industry.

His determination, combined with the skills he has developed at UKE, positions him well for future success.

We are excited to see him take on new challenges as he progresses in his career, particularly as he sets his sights on running his own jobs and pursuing his testing qualifications.

Cohen’s journey serves as a reminder of the importance of investing in talent and skill development within the electrical industry. At UKE, we are committed to continuing this approach, ensuring that apprentices like Cohen are given the tools they need to thrive.
