First-Year Apprentice Spotlight – Leo & Jude

At UK Electrical Installations (UKE), we take pride in nurturing the next generation of skilled electricians. Our apprenticeship programme is designed to provide a well-rounded learning experience that combines hands-on practical work with classroom-based training, ensuring that our apprentices are ready to take on any challenge.

Today, we’re spotlighting two of our first-year apprentices, Leo and Jude, as they embark on an exciting journey of learning, growth, and development at UKE.

Why Choose UKE?

Leo and Jude both found unique reasons to join UKE. Leo was drawn by the scale of our commercial and industrial projects:

“While most other electrical companies focus on domestic work, UKE has very large-scale operations in the commercial and industrial sectors, which really stuck out to me.”

— Leo

Meanwhile, Jude heard glowing reviews from others in the industry:

“I heard some great things about UKE from people in the industry, and with it being local to me, it was a perfect fit.”

— Jude

The Trial Period: A Warm Welcome to the UKE Family

For both apprentices, UKE’s trial period played a vital role in confirming their decision:

“The trial period helped me decide that UKE was right for me as it gave me a personal showcase of the different areas of the electrical world.”

— Leo

“I was surrounded by people who were very welcoming and eager to help me learn, so I already felt supported.”

— Jude

Learning on Site Before College: The Competitive Edge

Our apprentices hit the ground running, gaining valuable on-site experience before stepping into the classroom:

“The time I have spent on site as a trainee for UKE will definitely benefit me at college—I already have some electrical knowledge because of it.”

— Leo

“Being able to experience time on site before starting college has given me a better understanding of what day-to-day life looks like.”

— Jude

Excited to Learn and Grow

With their first year underway, Leo and Jude have clear goals for what they hope to achieve:

“I am excited to experience both the theory and practical work, to continue to learn and gain knowledge.”

— Leo

“I am looking forward to learning the basics so I can improve my understanding of this line of work.”

— Jude

What Will They Be Learning This Year?

According to Birmingham Electrical Training, first-year apprentices develop a solid foundation in key areas such as:

  • Health and safety on construction sites
  • Electrical installation fundamentals
  • Reading and interpreting wiring and circuit diagrams
  • Proper use of tools and equipment

As Leo and Jude build on their existing on-site knowledge, they’ll be gaining critical skills that will set them up for success in the coming years.

We’re proud to have such driven apprentices joining our team and look forward to seeing what they achieve next!
